When the Library Assistant isn't busy fixing computers, building the web site, or borrowing items for patrons from other libraries, she loves to pick up a good book. Television? Who has time for that when a book can transport the reader to another world?
She reads all types of books, from science fiction to fantasy, novels to nonfiction, juvenile to adult. It was nearly impossible to narrow down her favorites for one web page, so she bit the bullet and chose novels.

Novels into movies
I read these books before they were made into movies. There is so much more detail in a book because the reader can better know the character's thoughts and feelings. However, there have been some very good dramatizations based on novels.

I think everyone who hated reading classics for school should venture into one as an adult.
Fiction series
Big Cherry Holler is actually the second book in the Big Stone Gap series by Adriana Trigiani. Follow Ave Maria Mulligan as she uncovers a skeleton in her family's closet and tries to hold her family and her hometown together.
Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind begins the uproariously funny Miss Julia series by Ann Ross. Miss Julia is a southern gentlewoman of a certain age who has definite opinions about how the world should be run, in spite of the elders at the Presbyterian church.
Plainsong and Eventide by Kent Haruf, are about Raymond and Harold McPheron, two bachelor cattle-farmers in Colorado. Their lives are changed forever when they take in a homeless and pregnant teenager.
Darkfever, Bloodfever and Faefever by Karen Marie Moning tell the sometimes harrowing story of MacKayla Lane, powerful sidh-seer; a person who can see the Fae. At least two more books are coming in this series!
